A Note to January

Dearest January,
Just a little note to tell you how happy I am that you've arrived. After the chaos that we call the holidays you are absolute calendar perfection! Thirty-one blissfully empty little squares to fill with soup making, time by the fireplace, even a little organizing. Sadly, some find you boring. You are not one of those pushy months that shoves events at us nonstop, but a quieter month that requires some effort. Many would argue that this effort is primarily spent on snow removal. Weather issues do tend to overshadow your more subtle charms, but charming you can be. So again, thrilled to have you back!
Affectionately,
Crayon

  2. Hope it was happy chaos! I have a soft spot for January as it is the month in which I was born.
    Happy New year!

  3. A quieter time gets us ready for the busier months ahead. I live in a semi blur of chaos, organisation being a very week point. Let's hope that the days fill with good things.

  4. Dear Scribbling with Crayons,
I do love January for the same reasons you do :-) Here nature behaves a bit strange: no snow, no frost, but flowering pansies and pepperwort.
I wish you a Happy New Year! Britta

  5. January must be very grateful to get such a nice letter ;-) If only she'd give us a little less rain I'd love her too.

  6. I love a January too - a whole year to look forward to and lots of nights in front of the fire. Not much happening and lots of time to get all that stuff sorted.

  7. Stephen Hayes- Enlightenment is just a little service we provide.

hausfrau- Yes, it WAS happy chaos. And my birthday is in January as well! Happy Birthday!

Susan T- The quiet time is the best part, isn't it? I'm a bit of an organizing nut but Hubby sees to it that nothing stays that way...

Britta- The deer keep pulling and tossing poor Hubby's pansies around but they're hanging in there. No snow for you in January? We haven't had any so far either. Happy New Year to you, too!

Carolina- Rain. Uck. Do you usually get so much rain this time of year? If so, I'd choose another month as my favorite!

    projectforty- Oooh, exactly!!

  8. Amen! January may be my favorite month. In addition to all the reasons you so eloquently cited, I enjoy the chance to catch up on reading those books waiting on the shelves. An extra reason is that it includes someone's birthday.
